About the Journal

Focus and scope

The Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Reviews (BJVR) publishes review articles that critically synthesize the evidence in veterinary medicine and animal science: animal health and welfare, veterinary public health and One Health, pathology, pharmacology, epidemiology, wildlife and aquatic animal medicine, animal production, nutrition, reproduction and genetics.

Accepted article types are systematic reviews (with or without meta-analysis), network meta-analyses, diagnostic test accuracy reviews, systematic reviews of animal experiments, scoping reviews, umbrella reviews, rapid reviews, living systematic reviews, and narrative and mini-reviews. Original research articles and case reports are not considered.

Peer review

All manuscripts are screened by the editors for scope, reporting completeness and similarity. Manuscripts that pass screening undergo double-anonymous peer review by at least two independent reviewers, at least one of whom has methodological expertise in evidence synthesis for systematic-type reviews. The journal follows the COPE core practices, the ICMJE Recommendations and the EQUATOR Network reporting guidelines (PRISMA 2020 and its extensions, SANRA).

Publication frequency

Continuous publication: articles are published online as soon as they are ready and are grouped into one volume per year.

Open access and licensing

All articles are freely available immediately upon publication under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Authors retain copyright. Every published article receives a DOI. Posting preprints is permitted.

Publication fees

There are no submission fees. No article processing charge (APC) is charged for manuscripts accepted on or before 31 January 2027. Any APC for manuscripts accepted after that date will be announced in advance on this page, and fee waivers will be available.
